BLOG 3-What can be done to Prevent Obesity?

There is always talk about obesity but when are people going to start to take action? Since Obesity rates keep going up in America year after year, the best solution is to actually find solutions to keep those rates down. The best seven tips in doing just that is, stay active, eating healthy, watch your weight, drink water, get a physical at least once a year, keep junk food out of your house, and to only eat when you are hungry.
Yes, these tips are harsh but they are true. The only way to prevent obesity is to have an active lifestyle. It is pretty simple, for example, going to a store and taking the stairs, not an escalator. But then it can lead into something very good, which is working out, or going to a gym. When people should eat healthy, it means eating healthy. An average person should consume 2,000 calories per day in food with dairy, meats, breads, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Keeping track of the calories can help keep off those extra pounds.
A very good substitute for those hundreds of drinks out there is water. It is recommended to drink up to 10 glasses of water per day. It is also recommended to get a physical once a year. In doing that, it helps prevent health complications, including diabetes. Keeping junk food out of the house it too hard, but having 2 cookies is a better choice than having 10 cookies. Speaking of, you should only eat when you’re hungry. Those who are naturally thin only eat when they are hungry.
In conclusion, following the seven steps including, stay active, eating healthy, watch your weight, drink water, get a physical at least once a year, keep junk food out of your house, and to only eat when you are hungry, can be a great way in dealing with obesity or preventing it. These steps are to guide you, not haunt you. So if you really believe in being healthy, it is up to you.

BLOG 2-Obesity in America

In America, who would have known that a main cause of health problems and death rates came from the problem of Obesity? Out of all of the Countries in the world, America is the number one country with the most obese women, men, and children. Adult rates now exceed 25 percent in 31 states and exceed 20 percent in 49 states and Washington. Two thirds of American adults are either obese or overweight. From time to time, the rates have increased, and the question is why?
In 1991, no states had an obesity rate over 20 percent, but now sixteen states have experienced an increase from obesity for the second year in a row, and eleven states experienced an increase for the third year straight. Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity at a 44.4 percent, especially children from the ages of 10 to 17. Minnesota and Utah come in last, with the lowest rate at 23.1 percent. When comparing the States, from eight to ten states, the highest rates of obesity come from the south. Not only does obesity relate to health issues, Obesity ensures that every adult and child should have access to cover for preventive medical services. Especially, out of adults and children, the rates of children are high. So there needs to be many precautions and changes in people’s diet plans to what they feed children at school.
In conclusion, America needs better ways to fix the problem of obesity. Health is the number one problem in today’s society, and being Obese, sadly makes it harder. Anything could be done to prevent these problems, including changing what people eat at home to what they put in people’s foods at restaurants. It will only make people feel healthier and looks better if they stick to it as well.

BLOG 1- Maine East Football 101

Ever heard of the phrase practice makes perfect? Well apparently that phrase took over the Maine East Football team and worked like a charm. The Maine East football players had a summer of hell. Everyday was practice but Sundays. Most importantly they were the first to practice as a team at midnight.

Maine East had a reputation of being “Maine Easy,” and having a 4 year losing streak, but on the night of August 28, 2009, which they had a defeat over Schurz High school with a score of 19- 9, The Blue Demons broke that streak and the body of Maine East can be proud of them for all the hard work they put in and how much they accomplished.
Opposing the victory, from the opinion of students on the campus and off of the campus, they always had negative things to say about how the football players played but, they were proven wrong. Randy Lee, a senior on the Maine East football team had to say, “It was hard to deal with everyone in school saying something, so it was nice to shut them up. Now everyone is cheering us on.” His words are true! Ever since the big win, the Maine East students have come together and brought out happiness and joy with one another. Not only was it great for the team to break a streak, but for the students of Maine East, they can be proud of what was broken.
The question is how will this steak keep going? Alex Bojic, a senior, said, “We practice hard all week and we just use people’s doubts as motivation.” Well until the next game, we shall see.

Me, Myself, and I

“Hey you have the same name as the girl form the wedding singer!” Yes, I do but her name ends with Gulia. My name is Julia Nancy Besch. No nicknames for short. I am now writing as a senior, age of 17, and going to portray where my passion started from. Ever since I was a baby I was in love with animals. Every type that comes to mind! My dream was to be a veterinarian but dreams do change unfortunately. However I have been volunteering at Heartland Animal Shelter for a long time now.
What I discovered about myself is I have a way in talking to disabled children and grownups. Once I graduate from college, which I plan on going to ISU, I would love to teach special Ed. I prefer teaching English and science as subjects just because they make me interested in new ideas. Since I got to high school I discovered a talent for Drama. I’ve been in Drama all four years now and I realized that I would like to minor in it as well as being a special Ed teacher.
I believe that high school is a place to seek new opportunities and find out what’s interesting in life. I’ve tried so many sports like Cheerleading and Soccer, and I knew it wasn’t what I really wanted to do, even as much as I love to place sports. So I switched to doing to school plays and joined thespians. Another activity I have been on for a long time is Italian Club, because I enjoy the culture, the language, and being Italian helps.
I enjoy many opportunities in life, and I always want to try it out. People have fears of heights, roller coasters, water, and so on, but I feel like I can overcome those tasks. I am open up to trying different food as well, like Chinese, being my favorite. It’s funny because many people would think I love pizza, because that’s what they usually say when they find out my parents own Nancy’s Pizza, but really, being a separate person I would love to follow my own dream.

Walk With Me

Walk with me
To that place where we are meant to be
To Mars, Jupiter, Saturn
I’m not a burden
That’s what you say,
But I think otherwise if I may.

Walk with you head up high
Don’t frown, ignore, and then sigh.
If you didn’t like me, then why are you with me?
Every day I ask you if you want to be free.
You say no thinking you’re in love with thee.
But, I think otherwise, so you see.

Walk just slightly over.
Then again were known as lovers.
I know this relationship is unique.
Look at my past, you may peek.
So this time you’re the one who messed up badly.
It is time to let you go, I said quite sadly.

Walk with your toes, not heel.
I know just what you may feel.
Like you made a mistake?
Like you were acting fake?
It is ok; just ask for a second chance.
But I see you with that girl that walks around and prance.

Walk with me.
So people will see.
I took you back from the dead.
We wrote it out, using lead.
Say it loud, you are not free.
That’s why you will walk with me.

Life Changing

There I was about to run up to the man I was married too, Brad. He pulled out a gun and said it was the end of the life of the man I was really in love with. I couldn’t bear to see Brad kill the love of my life! I ran up to him and told him he would never get away for something like that. I struggled getting the gun out of his hand more than anyone would ever know. The gun sprang out of his hands and boom. I’m “dead”…..
All my life I always wanted to grow up and have a career with animals, or children. Mainly, I have been very bipolar about my career choices. On the other hand, I do have a major hobby I love to do, which is acting. I’ve been doing drama for four years now, and I’ve been in plays before but, they never captured my mind and made me discover what I think my hidden talent might be. There was this play called, “Unwrap Your Candy,” and it was about six comedy plays about plays. I like to act. I like comedy. It was perfect. So I tried out for the play, and I made it. I was very excited. Out of the six plays, I was in two of them. The first one I was in was called “Playwriting 101,” and the second one was called, “Cut.” We rehearsed for a good month. Then came the weekend where the hard work at rehearsal really came in.
The moment before I went on stage I was actually not that nervous. I was in the back hanging out with friends and gaining energy to perform with. Then that moment came where I stepped onto the stage, and then I started to get a bit nervous. I’m really not scared when it comes to crowds and whatnot, but this time I realized that I couldn’t mess up, because there was a month a rehearing, but there where only three performances.
There I was, about to jump and kill my life, until a click stops me every time my scene partner and I talk. Then I heard people laughing? My scene partners and I where making the audience laugh. That alone took away my nerves. Actually, as soon as I said my first line, “I’m going to jump and nobody can stop me,” took my nerves away. As soon as that scene was over, I walked off that stage with a smile on my face excited for the next scene. I knew that there was something spectacular about it.
Just shortly after, was “Cut.” As soon as my scene partner and I walked on stage, there were remarkable awkward moments that where suppose to be there. Yet again, the audience laughed. Then my nerves went away again. Throughout this play, my character had changed characters seven times because different directors kept announcing cut or tried changing the play around. As much as the audience where probably confused, that was the reason why the whole plot was funny. Towards the end of the play, all of a sudden I turn into my first character, who is a dramatic women trying to change the mind of her dramatic husband. Brad, my husband, took out a gun and told me he wanted to kill my lover. I couldn’t let him do that so I ran over to him and struggled with him for a while until he accidentally pulled the trigger on me. Then I laid there dead listening to the audience reaction about the over dramatic death.
As much as I wanted to laugh with the audience because all my other scene partners found hilarious ways to leave the stage, I couldn’t because I had to still lay there dead. So I realized that acting isn’t more than just a hobby. I am able to make a career goal out of it and take this to a whole new level. At that moment, lying dead still, I new people would be proud of me, because I know I don’t strike people much as the person who is loud and courageous, but now people saw a side of me that changed everybody’s mind. It was life changing.

“How Do we Know Anything?”

Reality is the state of quality being real. People live it, think they own it, and want to be in it. Honestly, people will always have their differences about reality. But some share their reality thoughts the same as each other. The two thoughts are internal and external reality and should be proven why they are different.
Many people’s views are different from each other, especially when it is about reality. One view could be internal and the other view could be external. A good example would be, the way someone feels about classical music. One mind could be thinking it is very elegant, clears the mind, and makes them feel good, but another one could not stand it whatsoever and would want to put rap music on. It’s the matter of what people feel comfortable with than what anyone else feels comfortable with. That’s why God didn’t make everyone the same, because everyone has their own opinions. That’s why internal opinions are much more proper than external, because people can learn from each other and see the counterpoint of their own opinion.
In the way many people perceive things; it can bring a lot of fault upon each other. Since so many people have differences and know none will ever agree, that could break out into a feud. It’s all what people believe in. There are many objects and discoveries people have made like, the diseases, the sun, animal testing, and much more. People perceive it in negative and positive ways, but that’s a good thing because life would be boring if everyone had the same opinion about ideas.
Another important type of reality is absolute reality. It’s hard to understand because it is something that someone thinks is real and what they don’t want to believe is real. An example could be a wedding. Weddings can be real, when a man and a women love each other. But, many people on the other hand feel as if love never existed and weddings never happen because there is no love. Hard to imagine life without love, but it is what people believe in, and that’s what reality is all about.
The world exists beyond many people’s minds, whether if it is the nicest person or a really hard headed person, it is true for everyone. People have dreams and secret wishes and they are stuck in everyone’s heads. So there is a world that people live in, but there is also a world that people wished they lives in, which aren’t much like reality but it would be imagination. But, imagination isn’t good enough, because reality is what people actually live in.
Many people in the world try to shift and change the perception of reality. Politics, for example, when everyone was voting and Obama won the presidential spot. People tried to change people minds to vote for him because they thought he would be a better candidate. Many people are able to change people minds about things. Commercials can show who to help and what people should believe in like, adopting animals and children. It is safe to say, that people are able to change other’s minds, especially for the good of things.
In conclusion, reality is a form of people’s thoughts but separate thoughts at that. Many don’t wake up in the morning and smile at the thought of light and sun. In fact, many flinch and just want to go back to sleep. People have differences about reality is a good sign, especially if no one wants the world to be a bore. Whatever anyone believes in, they have the right of way because people may judge, but it is their own way to perceive ideas.

Always Running- Passage analysis

Based of the book, Always Running, by Luis J. Rodriguez, there are so many choices to answer about images. The passage that I chose is from the ending of pg. 37 to the top of pg. 39. This passage is about Louis coming back from a trip from Mexico and his family had agencies help them find a home that they could afford. “The living room served as sleeping quarters for my mom, sisters and dad. My brother and I had the only bedroom to ourselves, along with piles of stuffed boxes.” Quoted by Louis, he is describing what his apartment looked like. It’s a beautiful concept, because his family worked together to keep everything together.
This passage is considered important because it shows how Louis and his family are able to bare ideas together and work with each other. Even though his family doesn’t have a lot of money and the sons help pay the bills, it goes to show how the characters appreciate what they have and what is around them. Obviously, they would want a better lifestyle, but they were given what they have. An example for Louis appreciating everything is, “On hot nights, Rano and I slept outside under the openness of the desert sky. It was similar to Watts, but at least it was a home of our own again.” They haven’t been in a real home since there father moved away. They were trapped living with others and not being able to show there real selves. There just proud to being a place where they can feel comfortable at.
This passage can be proved in everyday life. As much as no one would want to believe it, it is the truth. Many people take things for granted and fight over the objects that they don’t need. This passage can be a great eye opener and could help people realize to appreciate what they have, because Louis was just happy to call such a place a home.
