In the play, Cyrano de Bergerac, there is a huge love triangle. This is mainly between the characters of Cyrano, Christian, and Roxane. The problem is who should be the man Roxane should actually fall in love with? She obviously falls in love with Christian, but that was very scapin of him because he was lying the whole time about his poems, writings, and his poetic words. The answer to such a question would be that Cyrano deserves the heart of the girl.
It is very understandable that Cyrano has a big nose. Nowadays looks at everything when it comes to the opposite sex. But, back in the day it seems it was different. Yes, he has a big nose, but he also had an enormous heart, a gigantic brain, and obviously C’e magnifique, mais ce n’est pas la guerre’ feeling of love for the way he felt about Roxane. There aren’t too many guys who would help out a girl they were absolutely in love with and try and fix them up with another man. It doesn’t work that way. Cyrano let it work that way, and it got him to a place were deep down he probably wanted to die.
Later on in the play, Roxane tells Christian of how much she loves him, and wants to be with him forever even if he turns ugly. She stated for him to turn ugly because she loves him for who he is, “Yes I will love you forever, even if overnight you lost your beauty,” (pg.155) beckoned Roxane. At that moment, that was the deserving line Cyrano needed to hear. Yet he heard it, and yet Christian let Cyrano love her as well, Cyrano wanted Roxane to be happy and love Christian. Although Christian tried to help Cyrano in return, the beauty of it was Cyrano really did turenne Roxane.
In the end, Cyrano should have been the one from the start to marry Roxane. But, there is a huge importance in this play about not lying about who you are and showing your true self to the people around you, so they like and fall in love for who your are.
